Homeworld Deserts of Kharak PC Game is a real-time strategy computer video game which developed by Blackbird Interactive and was published by Gearbox Software. This game was released on 20th January 2016 and it is the prequel to the 1999 space-based real-time strategy game Homeworld PC Game.
Gearbox Software developer bought intellectual property rights to the Homeworld franchise during the THQ’s bankruptcy auction in 2013. Following it, announced that they were remaking both Homeworld & Homeworld 2 PC Game in high definition. Which released on Steam in February 2015 as the Homeworld Remastered Collection PC Game.
After obtaining IP rights, Gearbox has granted permission for the use of Homeworld IP to Blackbird Interactive. The company formed by the members of the original Homeworld games development team in 2007. At that time, Blackbird was developing a ground-based RTS game which entitled Hardware: Shipbreakers. It was subsequently renamed Homeworld: Shipbreakers and it announced as a prequel to Homeworld. On 16th December 2015, this game was announced officially as Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. The game also became that time available for pre-order on the Steam. In addition, pre-orders of the Deserts of Kharak included Homeworld Remastered Collection for free. While those gamers who already owned Homeworld Remastered Collection received 20% discount for pre-order of the Deserts of Kharak.
Pre-order also came with a free copy of the interactive Expedition Guide. DLC companion application to this game, which details the history of Kharak & its society. The expedition & its purpose, the technical data on vehicles used by Coalition and Gaalsien. Also behind the scenes look at the Blackbird’s founding and eventual progression from the Hardware: Shipbreakers to the Deserts of Kharak. The game became available for purchase on Steam, along with game’s soundtrack by the Paul Ruskay, on the day game launched.
This game is set on the desert planet of Kharak, home-in-exile of Kushan (Hiigaran) people, about 106 years prior to events of Homeworld. Kharak is dying world, desert growing larger with every passing year, and Kushan clans regularly wage the war amongst one another. Then satellite detects an object in Great Banded Desert, which known as Jaraci Object, or “primary anomaly”. The expedition had been sent by Coalition of Northern Kiithid, group of Kushan clans from the northern polar region of Kharak.
